Tempest by Julie Cross

This books is very interesting and it gives a new perspective on "time travelers". A 19 year old boy named Jackson has his life turned upside down when his girlfriend is fatally wounded and he accidentally "jumps" back in time two years.
Jackson has never jumped more than 30 minutes into the past but when he accidentally jumps back two years he is unable to return to his time to try and save his girlfriend. He is trying to figure out what is going on while attempting to figure out who he can trust.. his father who is hiding secrets from him? or the mysterious figures who keep popping up out of no where? Can Jackson get back to 2009 and make amends? or is he stuck in 2007 forever?
This book was an interesting read. I loved the different stories that we were taken on with each of Jackson's "jumps" and it was great getting to see him come to terms with everything that his father has been keeping from him. The beginning of this book was slow moving but once all of the back story was laid out, it took off! This book is going to be loved by many, many people. It is about a confused teenage boy who comes to terms with his past, learns to love, and figures out sometimes it is best to let go of the person you love to keep them safe. Part of me really did not want to reach the end of this book because I knew it would be a very long time until I could read the next part of Jackson's story. This is a must read for any person, male and female alike.

Review: The Kissing Tree

This book was a sweet story about a girl, Georgiana, who moves back home after the death of her grandmother. She moved to New York five years before the story takes place and she has never forgotten her original home in Colorado. She has grown into a remarkable, independent woman who has never been able to give her heart to a suitor, even though she has a wonderful man who is willing to do anything for her. When she moves back to Colorado she runs into Ridge, the boy whom she stole a kiss from when she was 13. Georgiana is forced to choose between her heart and her head and decide who she ultimately wants to be with.
This book had a great love story and it was a nice change of pace for me. I am used to reading paranormal type books and this novel allowed me to put myself in Georgiana's shoes and I was constantly wishing that I was her. She is such a wonderful, strong character and even though she has had a tough life, she is able to overcome it with determination and grace.
I had a hard time deciding which love interest I was rooting for to end up with Georgie. I loved that you could relate to every character in this book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean romantic story!

Review: Her Dark Destiny by Dave Ferrero

Three out of five stars

This book is about an 18 year old, Shanna Hunt, who has spent years hunting demons in an effort to avenge her parents murder. She goes to a party that ends up as a massacre by demons, shape shifters, vampires, etc. After this showdown, she decides to join with "The Alliance" which is a group of people who hunt down these creatures. The book is about Shanna coming to terms with who she is and helping her new friends track down their enemies.
This book was...interesting... the plot was great, but the writing needs a little work. I love the ideas that Dave Ferraro came up with and how he created a world with all types of mythological creatures. The part that I felt was lacking was in the writing. There were some parts where I could not put the book down but then it would lead to a very boring section of the book. There was a lot of descriptions in the book that I eventually started to skim through because I got bored with it. I really enjoyed the last fight scene that had two unlikely heroes join in the fight against the "bad guys". Overall, the book was okay. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if it were to be edited down a little bit and some of the descriptions were cut down.

Enchantment by Charlotte Abel

This book was very weird to begin with but once I got past the first 10% I was hooked. It is about a girl named Channie (Enchantment) who is cursed by her parents so she would not end up like her sister. She was given the name "Chasity" and all of the magic that comes with that power name. She feels betrayed and angry by this betrayal of her parents and sneaks out of her house in the middle of the night. She meets two boys at a park and in order to test her new powers that "Chasity" has given her, she entices a boy to kiss her. Her powers rear their ugly head and the boy runs away thinking that he has been tased. Channie slowly begins to build a friendship with the boy, named Josh, and falls in love with him. They, being teenagers, want to be able to have a "normal" relationship meaning they would like to hold hands, kiss each other or anything that involves touching each other. In order to get rid of Chasity's curse, they become involved in dark magic and most of the story centers on them trying to get through it together.
The first 10% was all about Channie's family and them having to move to another state to escape a blood debt. I think the part that had me thinking, "okay, what?" was all of the names. The names they have been given carry huge weight with who the person is and what kind of powers they have been given. This book drew me in when we were introduced to Josh. He is such a great character and I immediately fell for him! I loved how he stuck with Channie through everything even when it cost him his dreams.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone past ninth grade. It was a quick read and has been set up for a second book that I cannot wait to read!
